The R-C winter campout is an annual event for the troop. We stayed at Van
Ness lodge at the R-C Scout Ranch. The lodge sleeps 52 people. There were so
many people attending this year that we had to use an additional bunk house.
There were scouts, parents and siblings from Troop 222, Crew 2222, Pack 824
and Pack 428 in attendance.
On Friday evening a transformer blew out leaving the cabin without power
until 6am. Fortunately plenty of firewood was available to keep warm using
the large fireplace in the common room.
Unlike in last year, it actually snowed while we were there. It was only 1-2
inches, but enough to amaze the boys that had never seen snow before. As can
be expected, several snow ball fights broke out. Some ending in hurt scouts.
