Event Name: Camp Geronimo 2010
Event Date: June 12 - 19 2010
Attendance: 8 adults, 14 scouts

Our first 2 days at camp have been busy, but fun. The boys picked out their tents and got settled in and had some free time to play in the creek and have fun. The more experienced boys helped the younger scouts on the rules of camp.

On Saturday evening we went on a night hike. The boys had to use compass bearings and paces to find reflective markers. Somewhere along the way we read the compass wrong and ended up in the middle of a patch of blackberry bushes. We found our way back to the road and made our way back to camp without finishing the course.

The troop participated in a team building exercise where all the scouts interlaced their arms to carry loads much larger than one person can carry. Once their arms were interlaced, a scout jumped into the awaiting arms.  They they had to flip the scout over and raise him over their heads. Then gently lower the scout to the ground feet first.

Tuesday morning was the first day of Polar Bear. We have to wake up at 5am and swim a lap at the pool. Almost all the boys participated. The water was actually very warm compared with other years.

Miscellaneous photos of the boys in their merit badge classes.

Our theme this year is Superhero's! We dress up each year for the Scoutmasters meeting.

Our out-of-camp hike was to finally reach the top of the rim on the Turkey Springs trail. Our hike took us past the Turkey Spring and balance rock to an area almost to the top. Two of our youngest scouts went on the hike and made it to the top! In fact, none of the scouts that went on the hike wanted to turn around until we made it all the way. During our break at balance rock, we were able to take some beautiful photos. We had 7 boys and 3 adults go on the hike.

Some general pictures from around camp on Tuesday evening just before my camera battery ran out. Don't worry, I will get it charged up tomorrow morning at the leaders lounge so I can take more pictures.

We had KP (Kitchen Patrol) for breakfast. We had to server eggs, hash browns, sausage and cinnamon rolls. boys were needed to wash dishes, refill drinks, empty trash and serve food.

To obtain Big G Gold, we have to perform a service project for the camp. this years project was to add hand rails to a foot bridge that crosses one of the creek. Many thanks to our sister troop (783) that provided the construction know-how to get it done.
